Buying A Kitchen Sink

The kitchen sink and the area around it are usually the most used parts of a normal kitchen. Food washing and preparation, hand washing and mixing of drinks all takes place around this area.

For this reason we need to put a lot of thought into which sink  we install when designing a new kitchen, but what are the most important questions to ask yourself if you buying this appliance if you want to meet your family’s needs?

1. What size and shape of sink do you need to get the most from it?

Ideally we need to find a sink which will allow our family to use this important area for all possible needs without feeling restricted by lack of space. If you have a large family where more than one person might be using the sink at any one time or you will be creating large meals for many people at once then get the largest sink you realistically fit into your kitchen.

2. Draining Area

Related to the size in general but different models and makes of sink will all have their own specifications as to what size draining areas they give to fit a specific bowl size. it depends on your needs but for bigger families and busier kitchen think bigger draining area. The type of food you cook on a regular basis could also affect you decision here though. If you are not going to have a dishwasher in the kitchen then obviously you’ll want a bigger draining area for the dishes. Also, families who eat a lot of salad will find the draining area handy when washing vegetables.

3. How do you normally use your kitchen sink?

We all use this room in different ways by cooking a different number of meals every day, for varying numbers of people and using different cooking styles. Think about how you have used your sink in the past and consider if there is any way you could find an improvement this time around.

4. Spend some time considering what type of taps to get

The style of taps you get is almost as important as the sink itself. In this area though it is more down to personal choice so try out as many taps as possible before purchase to ensure you get something that really suits you.
